Our answers to frequently asked questions about Sunraysia Medical Centre 

Please ring 5062 4050 for an appointment or use our online booking system (link). Every effort will be made to accommodate your preferred time and GP. If your appointment is urgent please let the receptionist know and we will schedule a review by the doctor. The practice can become busy and it can be difficult to offer appointments exactly when patients would like them. Thank you for your understanding.

Longer consultation times are available, so please ask our receptionist if you require some extra time. All appointments from 1pm on Saturday are booked on the day and allocated for emergency appointments.
These are available for residents of some of the local nursing homes. Simply ask at reception or speak to your GP.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please let us know in a reasonable time frame so someone else can be offered your appointment time.

Lack of reasonable notice may result in a non-attendance fee being charged.

Nobody likes to be kept waiting or to keep others waiting needlessly. We are constantly aware of this and try our best to keep to appointment schedules. However, the nature of medical practice means that there will be times we run behind due to unforeseen circumstances. If you are worried, please call us ahead of time to check how your doctor is running.

You can minimise wait times by booking an appointment earlier in the morning or ask to be seen at the doctor’s first available appointment after lunch.

We are a private billing medical clinic. DVA gold card holders and children under 16 will be bulk billed. All other patients will be privately billed. To maintain provision of high quality care and in line with increase in the cost of medical equipments and services, from 1st of January 2023, our standard consultation, long consultation and extended consultation fees has changed. *Chronic disease management plans and health assessments (where you see nurse and doctor on the same day will be bulkbilled).

My Health Record travels with you, so you don’t need to worry about remembering and repeating all of your medical history. It also allows for faster administering of appropriate healthcare which can be especially important in an emergency.

The doctors within this clinic have access to specialists and other service providers within the area and also are able to refer to services in other areas.

It’s important that everyone who visits us can feel relaxed and comfortable in our waiting room. We appreciate your efforts to limit the spread of illness by covering your mouth and nose if coughing or sneezing and keeping an eye on children.

If you are unwell or you think you have an infectious disease let our receptionist know please. This gives us an opportunity to isolate infectious patients from other vulnerable patients.

Open 6 days for your convenience: Monday – Friday, 9am to 5pm and on Saturdays, 9am to 1pm

All appointments from 1pm on Saturday are booked on the day and allocated for emergency appointments.

Our general practitioners provide phone consult and video consult to our existing patients. Please make appointment using our app, online booking system or by calling our clinic.

Your doctor will advise you when they expect your results to arrive at the practice. For urgent results the doctor or one of our staff will contact you for any follow up care that is required.

Repeat scripts and referrals
It is highly recommended that you have an in person review of your medications before receiving repeat scripts. However, in exceptional situations our doctors try their best to provide you with you script until you are able to see you doctor.

It is a legal requirement under Medicare Act that a referral to a specialist only be given after due consideration by treating physician. This therefore requires you to have a consultation with your doctor in person or via telehealth.

Our practice provides an after hours service for urgent matters only.

This service attracts a substantial fee which may not be claimable from Medicare.

Our practice is committed to preventative care. Your doctor will seek your permission to be included in our reminder system. We may issue you with a reminder notice from time to time offering you preventative health services appropriate to your care. If you do not wish to be a part of this system then please let your doctor or the receptionist know.

Occasionally we may have GP registrars and medical students attending the practice and working with our GPs. Please let us know if you would prefer a student or registrar does not attend your appointment.

Accreditation is the process of continuing quality improvement – to let you know we have met the standards set for the medical profession.

The standards used have been written by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

If you have a concern, we would like to hear about it. Please feel free to talk to your doctor or the receptionist.
